Scholarships, Bursaries and Prizes

Scholarships, bursaries, prizes and medals are awarded to students at McMaster University at various stages of their undergraduate careers. All undergraduate students accepted for admission to McMaster University are automatically considered for McMaster University entrance awards. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of achievement and bursaries are awarded on the basis of both need and achievement. There are also Entrance Awards, which include McMaster President's Awards, McMaster Honour Awards, and in-course awards.

In-course students are eligible for a very large range of scholarships, bursaries, prizes and medals. Most of these are awarded without students applying, but there are some awards which have criteria other than academic performance and require applications from students who believe they have the special qualifications which characterize these awards.

More than 90 different in-course awards, prizes and medals are available only to students in Social Sciences, while more than 51 bursaries have been established for students in our Faculty.

In addition to financial support through scholarships and bursaries, students may be interested in taking advantage of the expertise in the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships with respect to obtaining financial support through the Ontario Student Assistance Program, Canada Student Loans and other government sponsored student assistance programs.
